FILM FUND DEADLINE LOOMS AS KZN BUILDS TOWARDS THE 2026 SABELA AWARDS

KwaZulu-Natal filmmakers have until 16:00 on 14 September 2026 to submit applications for the latest round of the KZN Film Fund Development and Production Programme. The current funding call offers filmmakers an opportunity to secure support for the development and production of new projects.

The Film Fund deadline comes as adjudication for this year’s Simon Mabhunu Sabela Awards is under way.
The experiences of previous Sabela winners provide a timely reminder of what recognition at the Awards can mean beyond the ceremony itself.

Producer Bonie Sithebe, actress Zola Mhlongo and filmmaker Portia Ncwane have each continued to build on their careers since receiving Sabela recognition, moving into new productions, developing new projects and, in different ways, creating opportunities for others.
